MVNOs Expected to Grow
According to the Yankee Group, mobile virtual network operators (MVNO) will generate service revenue of $10.7 billion by 2010 and have a subscriber base of 29 million. The research group predicts large MVNOs will grow and fuel the industry by segmenting the host carriers' target subscriber base and distribution channels.

Wireless Handset Shipments Expected to Slow
According to an IDC report, global wireless handset shipments are expected to slow in 2005. In 2004, global wireless handset shipments grew 34% to 692 million. IDC predicts global wireless handset shipments will increase by 20 million in 2005.

BlackBerry Continues to Attract Subscribers
According to a BBC report, BlackBerry wireless devices have become a badge of honor in executive circles, attracting 3 million subscribers. The device, nicknamed the "Crackberry", has added one million users in the past 6 months alone. Additionally, the company aims to add five to 10 million subscribers by April 2006.

Ericsson to Develop TD-SCDMA
Ericsson plans to develop technology to support new TD-SCDMA high speed wireless phone networks in China. According to a Reuters report, Chinese wireless carriers are evaluating different 3G technologies, which allow users to transmit pictures and email through their wireless phones.

Nokia Plans to Release Technical Details
Nokia plans to release technical details about its wireless TV system to help service providers offer customers the possibility of watching television on their wireless handsets, with commercial TV services expected to launch in 2006. According to the company, the air interface specifications for wireless TV based on Digital Video Broadcast-Handheld (DVB-H) will provide information on how wireless TV terminals interconnect with the network end of the service.

NTT DoCoMo Reports Profit
NTT DoCoMo reported its net profit for the fiscal year ended March 31 2005 increased 15% due to the sale of its stake in AT&T Wireless. The company's net profit for the 2005 fiscal year increased to ¥747.56 billion, up from ¥650.01 billion in the 2004 fiscal year. Revenue fell 4% to ¥4.85 trillion, down from ¥5.05 trillion.
